Why Riot?

Behind the scenes the music industry which encompasses

record manufacturers
record labels
record distributors

band managers
tour promoters
bookers
roadies
etc.

tend to be male dominated and \"steered\" by men while women serve rather representational functions; they still exert comparatively little influence on crucial decisions. In addition to this women still make little use of networks when they are musicians (undergound), Djanes, dancers, graffiti writers, and producers. There are still music communities that rarely offer female fronted bands (Hip Hop, HC Punk, etc.).Thus we are starting a new Riot Grrrl Chapter to make people become more aware of this political and socio- economical issue. We want to encourage women to start their own networks of DJanes, dancers, writers, singers, bands, labels, magazines, radio shows, magazine editors etc.
